Handmade. Eclectic. Design.
Off-end has been around in one form or another since first conceived in 2004 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY by Tim Smith. Originally Off-end was only a name concocted for invoicing contractors as a freelance window display artist in Manhattan, but became increasingly more official over the years as a furniture design and fabrication concern. In 2017 Tim joined forces with his partner, Erica, to design a tiny house. Prior to that Erica spent two decades in the fashion industry designing handbags with an unwavering passion for craftsmanship. This first collaboration proved a perfect compatibility and Erica has since taken on an important role at Off-end emphasizing in soft-goods design, adding a fresh dimension to our offerings. They now operate out of Beacon in the beautiful Hudson Valley.
Tim and Erica’s combined skills have lead Off-end to a more refined mission. They design and make the pieces they love with an eye on sustainability. Put simply, Off-end’s focus is design and our mission is simple: to create beautiful, well-crafted furniture and cabinetry in a way that diminishes (to whatever tiny degree) the impact that mass production has on the planet.
Objects built in 2022 during our study in reclaimed materials.
We build pieces that, with proper care, will last beyond a single lifetime. Not only do we seek to create pieces that hold up physically to the ravages of time, but the demands of ever-changing esthetic sensibilities as well, in hopes to further mitigate the need for future generations to purchase temporary, trendy throw-away furniture. Additionally, Off-end seeks to prevent retinal damage that poorly designed furniture and cabinetry might cause the eye of the beholder.
