Handmade. Eclectic. Design.

We are Tim and Erica and we run Off-end, a small made-to-order furniture company located in the Hudson Valley focusing on modern design and high quality craftsmanship. Together we make pieces for the work studio and for your home.  I design and handcraft the pieces while Erica keeps things running smoothly and focuses on soft goods.

With an education in fine art I began working as a freelance window display artist in NYC. I found work with a master carpenter, Guenther Frank, building displays for stores in Midtown Manhattan. Guenther taught me the basic woodworking skills and applications, including some simple, utilitarian cabinetry methods, needed to facilitate the designers’ visions. I was able to take these basic skills and apply them to a diverse array of freelance fabrication projects, including the occasional furniture piece.

With her years of experience designing handbags in New York’s fast-paced world of fashion Erica brings a keen design eye to Off-end. Her passion for color and fabrics is invaluable to our brand.

As an exercise in sustainable living I set out to design and build a tiny house which led me to a far more immersive education in woodworking. Not only did I learn overall house carpentry, but I built our casement and awning windows, kitchen and bathroom cabinetry and interior furniture all with an artisanal attention to design and detail.

While living in our beautiful tiny home (see pictures) we began a study in making sustainable objects using reclaimed materials and methods. This sparked the idea to develop Off-end, a collection of furniture ideas. We developed an ethos: create heirloom furniture that can stand the test of time and be passed from generation to generation alleviating at least some of the need to buy disposable, short-term-use pieces.

Objects built in 2022 during our study in reclaimed materials.

Off-end makes one piece at a time allowing us to focus on the highest level of craftsmanship.  We build pieces that, with proper care, will last beyond a single lifetime. And we don’t only seek to create pieces that hold up physically to the ravages of time, but also to the demands of ever-changing esthetic sensibilities.
